Artist Spotlight: The Los Angeles Vocal Artists (LAVA)
Next up under the spotlight is the Los Angeles Vocal Artists (LAVA)! Watch this hot, talented choral ensemble erupt from The Music Center's Walt Disney Concert Hall stage with us at "A Summer Symphony With FASO" on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m.!
1. LAVA can trace its origins back to a funeral gig in the summer of 2017.
Allan Sims, a Los Angeles church musician, needed a choir for a funeral — so he called up a few of his friends. At lunch after the service, the group of singers, comprised of University of Santo Tomas Singers and Harana Men's Chorus alumni, expressed that they all craved to sing in an actual choir again. After a few more lunches and the addition of more choral enthusiasts from all over Los Angeles, LAVA, with Allan Sims at the helm as Musical Director, surfaced!
2. In March 2019, LAVA had its debut concert at the Precious Blood Catholic Church in Los Angeles.
Here's a taste!
3. This is an ensemble that sings together and eats together.
LAVA always eats together before and after each rehearsal!
4. LAVA has something in common with Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray.
The ensemble got its name around the same time when the Philippines (and kababayans everywhere!) cheered on then Miss Universe 2018 contestant Catriona Gray with her winning lava walk!
Watch LAVA slay like Catriona on the Walt Disney Concert Hall stage on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m.! Tickets for "A Summer Symphony with FASO" are available here and are priced at $20, $35, $50, and $60.
