Artist Spotlight: Music Educator & Vocalist, Alexandré “Rei” Legaspi

FASO is kicking off 2021 with virtual vocal workshops for students grades 3 to 12 on Saturday, Feb. 6! Get to meet one of our teachers, music educator, choral director and vocalist Alexandré “Rei” Legaspi before then.

1. Although Rei is classically trained vocalist, she has an open heart and mind for music.

She will listen to nearly anything! She enjoys contemporary classical music like the works of Philip Glass and has attended a full performance of Glass’ “Einstein on the Beach.” Her not-so-classical taste includes jazz, hip-hop, R&B, EDM, motown, and many more! She loves Tokimonsta, Daedelus, mndsgn, Thundercat, amongst others. As a music educator, she encourages her students to share their favorite musicians with her because she loves to discover new music.

2. She’s a creative type.

And this goes beyond music. Rei enjoys being creative in all kinds of ways — sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting, audio and video production, and cooking amongst other things. She’s even built her own computer and she’s very proud of the parts she picked!

3. Rei has a wide range of teaching and performance experience.

A music educator with a bachelor’s in music education and performance from California State University of Long Beach, Rei has directed youth musicals and a high school wind band. She has been a Kodály Instructor for the National Children's Chorus, utilizing the Kodály method in her ensemble rehearsals. In addition, she enjoys teaching piano, ukulele, violin, viola, and guitar. Rei is also a soprano section leader and cantor at her home parish, Holy Family Catholic Church, in Glendale, California as a member of the Filipino Chorale. She has also performed at Carnegie Hall with the Filipino Chorale for Distinguished Concerts International, New York.
