Artist Spotlight: Composer & Vocalist, Nilo Alcala

You won’t want to miss our next artist in the spotlight, vocalist and composer Nilo Alcala, at our upcoming Nov. 14 pops concert at 7 p.m. at the Alex Theatre!
1. Nilo is a Philippine Madrigal Singers alum.
Nilo Alcala was a soloist and resident composer of the Philippine Madrigal Singers. With the ensemble, Nilo performed in festivals, goodwill concerts and competitions in 17 countries! Some of his works were premiered at Florilège Vocal de Tours and the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing.
2. He’s an award-winning composer.
Nilo’s accolades include the Ani Ng Dangal from the president of the Philippines and the POLYPHONOS Young Composer Award from Seattle’s The Esoterics. More recently, he was awarded The American Prize in Composition for his work “Mangá Pakalagián!”
3. Nilo has also hit the theater scene.
He portrayed Padre Salvi, the antagonist of Ryan Cayabyab’s “Noli Me Tangere, The Musical” at the Aratani Theatre and the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.
4. Alcala released his own album, “Dare to Dream.”

5. His own Walt Disney Concert Hall debut is soon!
On Nov. 15, the day after our pops concert, Nilo will have his Walt Disney Concert Hall debut when the Grammy-nominated Los Angeles Master Chorale premieres his commissioned work, “Mangá Pakalagián!” Watch this “Kababayan Today” feature on the premiere of his work.
